Domiciliary mileage is a real deduction.

If a big part of your week is home visits, the mileage adds up. Logging it as you go, by flat rate or actual costs, keeps your quarterly figures accurate and your taxable profit fair.

Common questions

Podiatrist & chiropodist MTD FAQ.

When does MTD for Income Tax start for podiatrists?
If your gross income is over £50,000 it applies now, from 6 April 2026. Between £30,000 and £50,000, your start date is April 2027, and from April 2028 it drops to £20,000.
Can I claim mileage for home visits?
Yes. Domiciliary mileage is generally deductible, whether you use the mileage flat rate or actual vehicle costs. Recording it as you go reduces your taxable profit.
How do I record cash from elderly clients?
Cash paid at a home visit or in clinic is taxable income and must be in your digital records. Log it on the app when you're paid to keep your quarterly figures complete.
Is my HCPC registration deductible?
Yes. HCPC registration and professional indemnity are business costs, as are your instruments and consumables. Record them digitally.
What else can I claim?
Typical costs include instruments and consumables, sterilisation supplies, clinic room hire, your vehicle and mileage, HCPC and indemnity, and CPD.
