Common questions

Lash technician MTD FAQ.

When does MTD for Income Tax start for lash technicians?
If your gross income is over £30,000 it starts from April 2027, and over £20,000 from April 2028. Over £50,000 it applies now. Many are part-time, and the position under £20,000 is still under government review.
Can I claim room rent or a home studio?
Yes. Room rent is deductible, and if you work from home you can usually claim a reasonable share of home costs. Your takings are income and the rent or home share a cost.
How does the infill model work for records?
Your regular infills are repeat income you record as each appointment happens or is paid. The steady pattern makes clean digital records straightforward.
Is training-course income taxable?
Yes. If you teach lash courses alongside treatments, that income is part of your self-employed income and goes in your records.
What else can I claim?
Typical costs include room rent or a share of home costs, lashes, adhesives and consumables, tweezers and equipment, insurance and training.
